Most of our destinations are currently closed to foreign visitors and look likely to remain so for a while yet. Some of these countries are on the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO)’s advisory against travel.
However, we know that many of you are keen to have something to look forward to and are eager to plan and book trips in 2021 and 2022.
With that in mind, we have introduced a system to inform you when a holiday to a particular destination on a given date has a great chance of going ahead. We have called this ‘Travel Ready’.
Once you are ready to book, you can pay an initial deposit of £100 per person. Only once the trip is confirmed ‘Travel Ready’, will we take the full deposit payment of 25% plus any non-recoverable costs. Your balance payment will be due ten weeks before departure only once a trip is confirmed ‘Travel Ready’.
Even once a holiday has been confirmed ‘Travel Ready’, you will still be covered by our COVID Promise. This promise means that we will return the bulk of any payments should you decide to cancel for any COVID related reason, right up until the moment of departure.
We do the worrying so that you can do the dreaming.
There are three stages to making a trip ‘Travel Ready’. Here’s how we decide:
Whether the British FCO advises against ‘all but essential travel’ to that particular destination. While we would take note of travel advisories from other countries, we are based in the UK and would take a steer from our government first of all. If they do advise against travel, it makes it difficult for us to arrange a trip.
The destination’s rules. Is your destination country allowing visitors from your home country? Are tourist visas available? Is it possible to fly there, without quarantine on arrival? If the answer is no to any of these questions, then the destination will not be deemed ‘Travel Ready’.
The ‘ETG View’. This is where we take a subjective view of the criteria and make a judgement based on 15 years of experience and close contact with our local partners and suppliers. There are further internal guidelines which we’ll use, but in short, we’ll be asking and answering the sort of questions below:
Will our customers be made welcome in the destination?
Will our local experiences be compromised at all and if so, will this affect the quality of our holiday experience?
Can we check and approve all of the hotels and accommodation we are using from a safety perspective (including but not limited to COVID-19)?
Are the new travel arrangements (land, air or sea) reasonable, and will they not affect the enjoyment of the experience?
Will our customers be able to have the element of independent exploration, flexibility and freedom (with or without their guide) that is key to an ETG holiday?
We’re all navigating a new situation at the moment. As such, we want to be as transparent as possible in letting our community see how we are trying to make travel possible again.
And not just any old journey: we believe that we help our customers make their travel really count.
Here’s to all trips once again being ‘Travel Ready’!
We have undertaken the promise that if you need to cancel a holiday for any reason related to COVID-19, we will refund the bulk of your money in full.
