7 moments to get you an inch off the map
1. Chiang Rai
An inch off the map from the outset. Rather than starting your trip in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, head straight to Chiang Rai, the fantastic city that lies on the banks of the Kok river and is home to an excellent night market.
2. Phayao
Explore Phayao, a lovely town centred around an expansive lake, and the extraordinarily beautiful area that surrounds it. This is a pocket of Thailand that’s truly untouched by mass tourism; you’re likely to glimpse very few other visitors along the way.

3. Chiang Mai
Drive an hour or so to Chiang Mai and dive straight into our signature food tour. Chiang Mai province is one of the best foodie spots in Thailand, home to some of the country’s most distinctive and delicious flavours.
4. Hop to Hanoi
A new flight route from Chiang Mai to Hanoi makes it exceptionally easy to get from Northern Thailand to Vietnam’s capital.
5. Pu Luong Nature Reserve
The perfect base for those wanting to immerse themselves in Vietnam’s legendary scenery with bamboo rafting, rice terraces and breathtaking mountains. A fantastic alternative to the much-visited Sapa.
6. Trang An Ecosystem
Loop round to Trang An Ecosystem. The quintessence of Vietnamese natural beauty exists here: walk or cycle through paddy fields or evocative caves, threaded with waterways and surrounded by craggy limestone peaks
7. Hanoi city
Instead of box-ticking the main sights, see a side to the city few tourists experience. It’s often just a case of peeking round the corner or meeting people with a different story to tell. Get beneath the surface and absorb the wonders of real life.
